IT’S WARMING UP OUTSIDE!

As spring approaches, so does allergy season, bringing with it the sneezing, itching, and watery eyes that many of us know all too well. For those who love their lash extensions, this time of year can present some challenges. Seasonal allergies can exacerbate discomfort and potential complications for lash extension wearers. However, with the right preparation and care, you can enjoy beautiful lashes throughout allergy season without sacrificing comfort.

Before diving into how to prepare for allergy season with lash extensions, it's important to understand the relationship between the two. Allergic reactions can occur due to various factors, including pollen, dust, or other environmental allergens.

Our lashes are meant to catch these allergens before they make contact with our eyes…

During the spring, the concentration of allergens in the air skyrockets and our lashes simply cannot keep up. Excess pollen and dust gathers on our extensions, and when your eyes begin watering or you inevitably rub to alleviate that itch, these excess allergens make their way into our eyes doubling down on our exposure, thus, amplifying our symptoms.

Additionally, this extra rubbing or inadvertently pulling or tugging on our lash extensions can weaken the bond between the extensions and the natural lashes, leading to premature shedding and potential damage.

TIPS FOR PREPARING FOR ALLERGY SEASON WITH LASHES

  1. START TAKING MEDICATION NOW
Most OTC 24-hour allergy medications need time to build up a wall to those incoming histamines. It’s best to start building that wall before you start experience symptoms. The only medication designed to provide quick relief would be something like Benadryl, whose symptom of drowsiness is not ideal for most people on a daily basis.

  2. CLEANSE CLEANSE CLEANSE
We have an amazing selection of lash cleansers designed to really strip everything off of your lash extensions allowing those lash fans to keep fanning and prevent excess junk from making its way into your eye itself. Next time you’re in, ask us what options we have to offer.

  3. STAY PROACTIVE
Monitor your allergy symptoms closely and take proactive measures to manage them. This may include using air purifiers in your home, keeping windows closed during high pollen days, and avoiding outdoor activities during peak allergy times.

  4. SCHEDULE OUT YOUR APPOINTMENTS
On the spirit of staying proactive, make sure you plan out your lash appointments so you and your lash artist can stay on top of things, replace any lashes that have shed or become damaged, ensuring your lashes look their best throughout allergy season.

  5. DON’T RUB!
We kind of covered this one already, but rubbing is just going to push all of those allergens on your lashes into your eyes, exasperating your symptoms!

  6. USE ANTIHISTAMINE EYEDROPS
Daily drops can provide some serious relief. Some of our favorite OTC brands include ZADIDOR, Naphcon A, Opcon A, Alaway, and Pataday. Consult with a physician to find the best option for you.

In closing, seasonal allergies can pose challenges for lash extension wearers, but with proper preparation and care, you can navigate allergy season while still enjoying beautiful lashes. By consulting with your lash artist, maintaining good hygiene practices, and being proactive, you can minimize discomfort and ensure your lashes remain stunning throughout allergy season.
